Lucy, The Ark of the Covenant and the Queen of Sheba
Lucy, the Queen of Sheba, the rock churches of Lalibela, the Ark of the Covenant-well known names that are associated with the country of Ethiopia. It is not a country that many people visit; only 881,000 people visited in 2016-17. Compare this to 60 million people who visited Italy in 2018!
Now add my name to the list of visitors as I am going (without Yvonne) there in January 2020. Why, you ask? I am intrigued by ancient civilizations and Ethiopia is certainly one of those. Seeing those hand-carved rock churches that date back 1000 years is my main reason for visiting Ethiopia. They are as intriguing a historical site as the pyramids of Giza and the temples at Petra. Not to be overlooked is that my visit will also add another check mark on my “countries visited” list.
I am going with a small(17) group of travelers on a trip offered by Adventures Abroad, a firm located here in the Pacific NW. Here is the link to the itinerary for our specific trip.

I leave Seattle on January 8 and hope to share my experiences on this blog. However, I am not sure how good the internet service will be so blog entries might be sporadic, depending on where we will be. Stay tuned.
